Program Offerings

Department of Economics

SFU Economics provides our students with a balance of theory and practical applications.  You can expect to receive instruction from faculty members who participate at all levels of the undergraduate program.  During your first three years in the program, you will learn by participating in small tutorials that complement the materials taught during your larger lectures.  In your final year, you will get the opportunity to participate in small, upper-level seminar courses which will provide you with an intensive learning environment and the opportunity to participate in research. SFU Economics also sponsors distinguished speakers and departmental seminars to keep our students informed about the latest developments in economic research.

Our department has one of the largest number of international students on campus and has the largest Co-operative Education Program in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. As such, economic students can apply what they are learning in the classroom during paid co-op work terms.  Other benefits include gaining market-transferable skills, obtaining valuable industry contacts, and helping you make informed decisions about potential career paths. Interested students should visit the Arts Co-op website at http://www.sfu.ca/coop/arts.

Our goal is simple.  When you think about the world, we want you to see it through the eyes of an SFU Economist.  Come explore with us...
